I am a REALTOR® in Cedar Park, Texas and work in the whole Greater Austin area. Today is March 18, 2020. The stock market is crashing, the COVID-19 Pandemic has arrived in the United States. Recession is looming.
Having lived through the real estate and financial market crash which started in 2007 today’s turmoil feels eerily familiar. First it was real estate, then the financial markets crashed. Real Estate values in my market (I was in Florida at the time) plummeted 45%. They called it the Great Recession.
People lost their jobs and couldn’t pay their mortgages. Many owed more than their home was worth because prices declined rapidly.
Will we experience the same thing in 2020+?
Hopefully, no. But what if we do?
When those around you lose their jobs it’s a recession. When you lose YOUR job, it’s a depression.
During the real estate crash in 2007 I started helping Sellers/Borrowers get out from under their mortgage payments through means of a short sale. I developed unique skills and abilities to help people find relief.
Since then, we’ve experienced a rising real estate market…a booming real estate market. Especially here in Austin, Texas.
The interesting thing about recessions is they often happen unexpectedly. (Think 9/11.) Today’s news is that we are NOW entering a recession…2020.
