Are you thinking about moving to Cedar Park, Texas? I moved here in 2014 and I really wasn’t prepared for these three things. Before moving to Cedar Park, Texas you need to know these 3 things.
#1 – Hail
In the late spring we get some strong thunderstorms and sometimes they bring large hail stones. Recently in Georgetown, TX they had baseball size hail which caused the greatest damage ever. It doesn’t happen often, but it can. So when you move here I’d suggest you be ready to park your car in a garage or carport when hail is likely.
#2 – Heat
It gets hot here. Just this week the temperature reach 99 degrees with a heat index of 112. That doesn’t happen too often this time of the year, but it does get hot here. The average temperature in July – August is 96-97 degrees. Summer before last I remember it reaching 112 degrees. Thank God for airconditioning.
When it Get’s that hot, we simply stay indoors more with a cool iced beverage.
The good news is that the humidity is usually low which makes the heat more bearable. It can be scorching in the direct sunlight, but not so bad in the shade.
#3 – Tarantulas
The other day my step-son sent a picture of a Tarantula crawling up the outside wall of his house. He sees them quite often. They like to hide under the rocks the cover much of his property.
I discovered that Texas has a large and varied population of Tarantulas. They are mostly harmless to humans and are rarely encountered.
In spite of these things, I love Cedar Park, Texas. So does all the people who are moving here. In fact, Cedar Park ranks as one of Texas’ fastest growing cities year after year. Our cost of living is below the national average, we’re close to Austin, and the quality of life is superb.
