So for a few years now you’ve been hearing that Austin has been growing by 135 people a day. Well, that’s no longer the case. Austin’s population growth is slowing.
According to the Texas Demographic Center Austin is now growing by only 35 people a day. It’s still growing, but albeit at a slower pace.
Travis County, around Austin is growing at 60 people a day. However, Williamson and Hays Counties are growing at 120 people a day.
I’m in Cedar Park, Texas with is in Williamson County and I’m seeing the growth. Also benefiting are the nearby towns of Leander, Round Rock, Pflugerville, and Georgetown. These small towns represent the “suburbs” around Austin.
Why are people attracted to the areas, like Cedar Park? The people I talk to cite four reasons.
- Traffic. If you live here, you know that Austin’s traffic is horrendous. Often times people as spending 60 plus in their car both going to and from work. UGH!
- Affordability. There’s a big difference in housing prices as you leave Austin. The median price in Austin is considerably higher.
- Quality of life. People love the smaller town feel coupled with all the needed conveniences offered by Cedar Park and other towns around Austin.
- Schools. The proximity to great schools draws many families to Cedar Park, Leander, and the other towns mentioned.
