It was the end of a long day and I had met one of my best friends, Danny Smith, at a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting. I’m a REALTOR® and he’s my go-to mortgage professional.
The ribbon cutting was to celebrate the opening of the third location for a local automotive repair business called QualTech. About 50 or more people showed up to help the owner celebrate their success. These events are fun and a great way to meet other local business people.
One of my goals when attending an event like this is to walk out with two or three business cards of people I just met for the first time. Rarely does an event like this let me down. I enjoy meeting new people and building relationships.
Real Estate is a relationship business
Real estate is a relationship business. The more people I know and genuinely seek to help, the more business gets referred to me. I aim to be a Go-Give and to seek to help others anyway I can.
Today is the day after that event. I’ve sent emails to the people I met to set up one-on-one meetings over a cup of coffee. My goal is to learn about them as a person and as a business professional in our community of Cedar Park. Ultimately, unless they already have a trust relationship with a REALTOR®, my goal is to be the agent the know, like, and trust.
Out of that comes business referrals.
Danny and I talk several times during the week since we are like minded when it comes to serving our clients and to helping people in the Austin area. We’ve become good friends and often bounce business ideas off of each other.
Tacos and Friends
I invited him to stop by Chuy’s with me since it was time for their Happy Hour with a free Taco bar. I think I had Danny at the word “taco.” He agreed and off we went to Chuy’s.
The good thing about friends is that they usually give you great advice. As we talked about networking, marketing, and serving clients, we laughed a lot. We shared ideas. We gave each other advice.
Good advice. Good friends. Good margarita. Good tacos.
