This video and post is about the pros and cons of living in Cedar Park, Texas. You’ll discover the Top 5 Pros and Cons as well as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly about Cedar Park.
Here’s the Top 5 Pros and Cons.
Pro #1 – Fun Things to Do
If you like the outdoors you’re going to love Cedar Park, Tx. We have over 40 parks with over 1,000 acres of parkland. In addition to that you can watch professional Basketball, Hockey, and Rodeo events at the
H-E-B Center.
Like Craft Beer? You’ll enjoy our two famous Brewery’s, Red Horn and Whitestone. Not to mention all the restaurants from American to Asian, to Mexican, to Middle Eastern, to Mediterranean, and more.
Con #1 – Cedar Fever
If you have allergies, beware. We have Cedar Fever here which is an allergic reaction to the Mount Cedar trees. There is actually no fever, but you may suffer from a runny nose, itchy eyes, nasal blockage and tiredness. The allergy season is at its high December through February. The good news is that many people don’t succumb to Cedar Fever at all.
Pro #2 – The Weather
We actually enjoy 4 seasons here. Spring and Fall last just a few weeks, and the Winter is mostly mild. Summer is a great time for outdoor activities. And most people here enjoy a Springtime drive to see all the wildflowers along the highways, especially in the hill country.
Con #2 – The Weather
Yes, the weather is also a con. It gets HOT here in July and August. The average highs then are 96-97 degrees, but expect it to exceed 105 on several days. Luckily we have air conditioning for those days.
Pro #3 -The Cost of Living
The cost of living here is 5% below the national average. Also, there is no state income tax in Texas. Austin was recently named one of the most recession proof Metro Areas in the U.S. Our joblessness is low and both job growth and wage growth is a plus.
Con #3 – Property Taxes and Toll Roads
You can expect property taxes to be calculated as anywhere from 2.0% to 3.0% of the market value of your home. It depends on the neighborhood specifics. That means on a $300,o00 home you’ll be paying somewhere between $6,000 and $9,000 dollars a year.
We seems to have an abundance of toll roads. They get you where you’re going faster, but they are TOLL ROADS.
Pro #4 – The Texas Culture
Texans are friendly people. The wave and let you change lanes while driving. They say “please” and “thank you.” Texans are known for their Love of Country, Love of Texas, and Love of God.
Con #4 – Non-Native Culture
Texas has experience a tremendous amount of population growth as people move here from California, Florida, and New York. The challenge is that Texans feel the culture is being diminished by many of these new residents.
Pro #5 is BBQ
I asked my Facebook friends to name their favorite Barbeque Restaurant and they replied:
- Terry Blacks BBQ
- Coopers BBQ
- Louie Mueller in Taylor, TX
- Stiles Switch BBQ
- Rudy’s BBQ
- Salt Lick BBQ
- Opies BBQ
- J & J BBQ
If you like BBQ, you’re going to love Cedar Park, TX.
