This year the Austin area population will surpass a new milestone. It’s expected that our population will surpass 2.2 million. That’s over 100,000 more people than just 18 months ago.
But, it’s not the City of Austin that’s driving this growth. It’s the suburbs…where I live and work.
In the last 18 months Austin has seen only a 1.6% population growth whereas, the suburbs have experience an almost 5% growth rate. Specifically, it’s the cities like Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, and Round Rock.
What’s driving people to the suburbs?
- More new homes are being constructed there. Builders are working at break neck speeds to meet the buyer demand.
- Home Prices are lower. The median sales price in Williamson County is $275,000. Compare that with Travis County at $314,000 and the City of Austin with $360,000.
- Quality of Life. The quality of life in the suburbs is becoming increasing attractive. This is especially true regarding traffic.
